Florida DUI Laws Tighten
The rate of traffic deaths that result from drink driving is on the rise in Florida. According to the most recent data, drink-driving fatalities increased by more than 5 percent between 2010 and 2011, and the trend seems to be continuing.
Florida, like many other states, has enhanced the severity of DUI penalties and has become more proactive about stopping suspected drunk drivers. These efforts are aimed at preventing intoxicated drivers from killing and injuring other motorists.

Four Injured in Fort Myers Vehicle Accident Involving DUI
According to News Press, a Fort Myers man was drink driving down the wrong side of the street when he caused a head-on collision with another vehicle. The crash occurred around 3 a.m.
Todd Anthony Rosario, the drunk driver, was transported to a local hospital. Police report that he sustained serious injuries.
Three days later, the crash is still being investigated. Police say they are uncertain if Shannon Lea Anderson, the other driver, had been drinking, too. She remains hospitalized but is in fair condition. One of Rosario’s passengers also is listed in fair condition while the other passenger remains in critical condition.
Rosario currently is being held in Lee County Jail and faces six total charges, because his driving resulted in a crash that injured three other people, and he refused to submit to a DUI test. Although he most certainly faces a criminal trial, there have been no lawsuits filed.
Injuries that result from a vehicle accident are some of the most traumatic and long-lasting types that a person can suffer. The sheer force that a vehicle collision causes leaves many with fractures, severe whiplash, head injuries and back injuries. These can result in long recovery times that become costly between hospital stays and rehabilitation programs.
Furthermore, the intensity of a car accident can leave emotional and psychological scars that affect many areas of a person’s life. Rosario’s decision to drive drunk left three people with serious physical and emotional injuries.
