Aldon Smith Arrested for DUI
Aldon Smith, the Pro Bowl linebacker for the NFL’s 49ers, was arrested under suspicion of DUI and marijuana possession last week. He has since left the team to seek counseling and at the moment has not received punishment for his actions.
Aldon Smith’s Past Charges and Legal Issues
Being arrested and charged with DUI is nothing new to Smith, who was charged with the same crime in Florida last year. Being charged with this crime once is bad enough, but doing it twice is just unthinkable, especially for a high-profile athlete like Smith, who is always in the public limelight. Getting charged with a DUI in any state is damaging, but deciding to enlist the help of a professional DUI lawyer Tampa located could help to reduce the charges to a less serious offense, to protect your record. However, the charge was later reduced to reckless driving. Other legal troubles for Smith include being stabbed at his own home during a party that was crashed by alleged gang members. He was sued earlier in September by two partygoers who were shot during the party, which was held in June of 2012.
Latest News for Aldon Smith’s DUI Arrest
In Smith’s latest DUI case, he crashed his vehicle close to his home into a fixed object, with reports indicating the object was a tree. Smith did not suffer any injuries during the crash and was released on $5,250 bail. He paid the bail himself although there was a Huntington Beach Bail Bonds service available. The incident occurred at 7:02 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. He practiced that afternoon for the 49ers and played in the game against the Colts on Saturday.
Smith Issues Apology for DUI
Smith issued an apology for his recent driving under the influence arrest, according to NBC Sports.
“First off, I wanted to apologize to the team, the organization, my family and everybody I let down,” Smith said. “I also wanted to let it be known that this is a problem, and it’s something that I will get fixed, and that I’ll do everything in my power to make sure that this never happens again. I also wanted to let everybody know that once again, I’m sorry.”
Depending on the length of Smith’s treatment, he could miss more than one game. He is set to miss the 49ers game against the Rams on Thursday, according to 49ers’ CEO Jed York.
“We’re not trying to circumvent what the NFL will do,” York said. “This is about making sure that Aldon has the opportunity to work on something, to get better, and he knows that he has our support, and hopefully, he has everybody’s support in something that is going to be very difficult. It was disappointing, but we support him, and knowing that what he wants to do is not a one-day fix, it’s a long-term fix for Aldon.”
