Oil Tycoon Facing Record-Breaking Divorce
CNN reports that oil tycoon Harold Hamm is facing a potentially record-breaking divorce judgment. The news comes after the divorce lawyers similar to Kurtz & Blum, PLLC, for Harold Hamm and his wife Sue Ann Hamm came face to face in a U.S. divorce court.
The judge has sealed most of the information pertaining to the divorce proceedings, and as a result, not a lot of information is available. However, the 68-year-old oil tycoon is worth more than $20 billion, and he accrued the majority of that money during the course of his marriage.
According to commentators, 58-year-old Sue Ann Hamm could easily surpass the previous divorce judgment record if she receives as little as one-quarter of her husband’s wealth. Some reports suggest that Sue Ann Hamm could be in line to receive between $4 billion to $8 billion.
Harold Hamm is number 39 on the Forbes’ list of the wealthiest people. He made the majority of his money through oil company Continental Resources, which was at the forefront of the fracking phenomenon.
Experts say there are two important factors that will determine how much Hamm’s wife will receive: the date used in the settlement, as well as how much she may have contributed to the company and its rapid growth. A settlement is unlikely in these situations given that there are many millions of dollars at stake.
World’s Most Expensive Divorce Halves Oligarch’s Fortune
CNN reports that Dmitry Rybolovlev’s divorce is still the most expensive in history. While the recent case of Harold Hamm is putting this record in jeopardy, experts say the Russian oligarch’s divorce settlement still holds the records for the most expensive. The settlement halved Rybolovlev’s wealth, and he paid out $4.5 billion to his wife, Elena Rybolovlev. The two battled for two years before he eventually made the payment to bring the contest to an end.
