Prisoner Released due to a Computer Glitch, Turns Himself In!
On November 5th a Florida man Luis Lopez, 37 years old got released from a one year jail sentence after a computer glitch. He had only served 3 out of the 12 months he was sentenced to when prison guards informed him of his release had been ordered. Lopez was charged for a Second DUI Offense, Driving While License Suspended, hitting 2 cars and leaving the scene of the accident, back in August 2011.
Luis had pleaded ‘guilty’ to all of his charges which made him question the guards about his release wondering if it was a mistake or not. As soon as Lopez was released he contacted his public defender, just to make sure, who verified that it was indeed a mistake and that he would have to turn himself back in to the authorities. Lopez said that he was committed to serving his full sentence and knew that he wasn’t supposed to be released in the first place. He now hopes to get the remainder of his sentence finished and to just get back to his life.
