Two Child Custody Cases Make Headlines in Florida
Child custody agreements are part of many Americans’ lives. According to Census.gov, an estimated 13.7 million parents have custody of 22 million children who are under the age of 21 while the other parent resides somewhere else. This essentially means that more than 25 percent of children under the age of 21 only live with one parent.
It is obvious that child custody agreements are more common than many think. At the Law Offices of Michael M. Halle Berry Disputes Child Support Obligations
The Daily Mail reports that actress Halle Berry is claiming that her model ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, has been relying on her monthly child support payments without generating any additional income, and she intends to stop this.
According to the report, Berry is asking a judge to reduce the monthly payments. She is currently paying the sum of $16,000 a month to her former boyfriend but has requested this amount be reduced to $3,000 a month. The main reason behind her request is that she believes he is content simply to live off the child support grant that she is paying, which amounts to an abuse of the child support system.
The couple shares joint custody of the child, following a public battle in 2012. Aubry successfully fought for the right to see his daughter in that dispute, and ultimately, a judge blocked Berry’s attempt to relocate with the child to France. This application by her former boyfriend also resulted in the child support grant payments she is currently making to Aubry and is now contesting.
Suspected Kidnapping Turns Into Child Custody Battle
The Rapid City Journal reports that what police initially thought was a kidnapping at a local elementary school is actually a complex custody issue between the child’s parents. According to the report, witnesses saw a man picking up a young boy at a local elementary school. They alerted authorities about the incident. It has since emerged that the man was the father of the child.
According to local police, there is no formal custody agreement between the child’s parents. The mother of the child does not believe him to be in danger, but there is currently a custody agreement in the works.
